SHARE YOUR REAL-LIFE MINECRAFT MOMENTS!
Hey!
Minecraft can be a funny old game. Over the years, crafters have uncovered a wealth of secrets, and developed a bunch of unique ways to play. Dirt block towers, pigs with saddles, chests packed with mushroom stew - over time, these things have become almost… normal.
For the near future, we’re celebrating some of the funkiest bits of Minecraft. KeenFacebook and Twitter users might have noticed that we’ve already created an LA installation that references the way shrewd Minecrafters use torches to light their way back home. We also uploaded a unique L.A. map to Minecraft Realms for Minecraft Java that features loads of mini-games themed around light. In case you don’t have access to a Realm we’ve also made it available to download here.
When players at the installation complete the mini-games, a huge sign gets lit up. It’s so massive that airborne travellers can read it from the sky! It’s an awe-inspiring sight, and just one of the ways we’re championing the way you play.
You’ll see a lot more of these things over the next few weeks. Follow us on Facebook or check our Twitter to keep up to date. Even better, get involved yourself! Think of some of your favorite things to do in Minecraft and re-create them in the real world. Of course, don’t do anything dangerous like putting a bucket full of lava in your backpack. That’s just dumb.
Oh, and don’t forget Share your Minecraft IRL moments with the hashtag #MinecraftIRL so we can find them easily and retweet our faves!
Have a great day, everyone!

ON CONSOLES THIS HOLIDAY: ELYTRA, END CITIES & MORE
We’ve prepared a rather spectacular seasonal gift for Console Edition. As is traditional, you’ll have to wait until late December to open up the full package, but we’re happy to give you a teeny preview today - the digital equivalent of letting you sneak downstairs and give your gift-wrapped goodies a little inquisitive shake.
That’s if you can even lift the box - this is the biggest update we’ve put out this year! There are new mobs, blocks, items, status effects and all manner of other tweaks. Here are a few of the things you might hear rattling round inside:
Elytra! Soar through The End on your freshly-minted insectoid glider, or, if you’d rather practice first, why not put your aerobatic skills to the test by generating a world with the new Amplified Terrain option?End Cities, replete with End Ships, Chorus Plants, Chorus Flowers and Purpur blocks. Not all is as it seems, however - some blocks may conceal Shulkers, limpet-like enemies who fire homing rockets.
Take a hit and you’ll take damage and experience something new, too: levitation!
Elytra are essential to avoid an uncomfortable landing.
You can now use Dragon’s Breath to create Lingering Potions - throwable potions that leave a bubbling slick behind, ideal for ensnaring unwary pursuers.
There’s quite a few other stocking-fillers in there, too - but you’ll just have to wait for the free update to launch to unwrap its other mysteries!
Cheerio!

BOP A BUDDY OR JOURNEY THROUGH JUNGLES
Welcome back, Minecrafters, to another Friday of PC Realms maps! Based on last week’s numbers, loads of you went nuts for A Giant Quest! We had fun stomping around and staring down the dragon as well.
Let’s get into this week’s maps!
Makers Punch by MineMakers Team
Makers Punch was a natural choice for inclusion on Realms. It was a fun and error-free minigame from the start, and it reminded us of the fan favorite, Knockback Madness, seasoned with design elements from MineMakers Team’s Makers Spleef. The goal of knocking your enemies flying off the platform is simple, but learning the jumps and items will give you an advantage as you and your friends play this game over and over.
The Lost Civilization by Blockception and Mojang
We occasionally reach out to build teams for special projects, such as the House of Horrors earlier this month. For Minecraft 1.11, we worked with Blockception to show you some of this version’s new features, and it made sense to make it available through Realms as well. So far, it’s been very popular! You can find this map under the newly-renamed World Template heading.
Hmm, upgrades!
When Minecraft gets a big update, sometimes we have to retire old maps on Realms. However, through the tireless efforts of many mapmakers, a collection of adventure maps and minigames are already back! Here’s what you can play right now:
TNT Run
Memory Battle
3D Minesweeper
Blocked In Combat
Makers Spleef
Wither’s Challenge
Clambering Cubes
Ludo
Imperium
Color Run
Pumpkin Party
Unsighted Shadow
The Dornenstein Estate
Herobrine’s Mansion
Where Next?
Gray
Negentropy
The Present Factory
Don’t Go Insane
Like all of the other Realms content, you can find and load these maps by going into your Realms settings and clicking Reset World.
News you can use
However you get your PC Realms news, we’ve added an even easier way to get here and stay up to date. From the main menu of Minecraft for PC, click on Minecraft Realms, then click on the new, fancy black and white newspaper icon.
If you want to see the Realms content duo have adventures with coworkers and special guests, make sure that you follow our streams at twitch.tv/Minecraft, where you can catch our Friday broadcasts, as well as a bunch of previous videos.
That’s all for now! See you next time!

GOT TIME TO SPARE? TRY OUR HOUR OF CODE 2016 EDITION!
What could you learn in one hour? A little maths? A smattering of English? Some “science”?
Nothing of significance, basically. That’s why you should be delighted that we’ve created a second Hour of Code tutorial, designed to teach you the basics of coding in a mere 60 minutes. We introduce concepts of game design and computer science in easy-to-understand steps before giving insight into mob behavior and more. Of course, to be a master coder like Jens takes more than an hour’s training, but this is a great place to start.
Last year’s hour of code has been played over 31 million times, making it the most popular on the Code.org platform. Despite that, we’ve rebuilt the thing so it’s even better than last year’s.
Both the 2015 and 2016 tutorials are now available at code.org/minecraft so head over and give them a try. Oh, and if you’re still not convinced, watch the chirpy video below.
Thanks for reading, everyone! Enjoy your hour of code

Minecraft Updates!
SEEK OUT THE EXPLORATION UPDATE: 1.11 ON PC / MAC NOW!
Treasure hunters, rejoice! Update 1.11, aka the Exploration Update, has now made the treacherous journey from snapshot to full release. Our intrepid developers have scaled mighty crags of code, ventured into untamed pre-release territory and battled bugs to bring you wondrous gaming goodies!
Some of these goodies may help you on your own journeys, too. 1.11 introduces the Cartographer, a new type of Villager who will exchange your spare emeralds for a map, marking the spot of certain treasure caches. But these locations won’t give up their bounty so easily! Some maps may point you to mysterious Ocean Monuments, patrolled by spiny Guardians, others to Woodland Mansions - a new location, inhabited by the Villagers’ creepy cousins: the Illagers!
These mean and miserly folk do not welcome interlopers: watch out for spells which summon toothsome traps from the floor, or conjure nasty impish foes called Vexes. Survive that, and you’ll find that the Woodland Mansion contains a rather powerful prize: the Totem of Undying. With this trinket to hand, you can face any peril without fear. Fall, and the Totem of Undying will bring you back from the abyss of death itself! Phew!
But how will you transport all your amazing loot? Perhaps saddled to a llama! These noble ruminants will form a caravan train that you lead across the land, and can be decked out with snazzy drapes. They’re pretty feisty, too, and chase off menaces with a hail of spitballs. Cool! Also, ew! Cewl?
If their inventory is not enough to accommodate your needs, consider packing your chattels into a Shulker Box - a special chest that retains its contents even when knocked down. Handy!
There’s loads more to discover! But you’re brave adventurers, right? Find it for yourself!

Minecraft News!
POCKET AND WIN 10 GETTING 1.0 - THE ENDER UPDATE SOON!
There comes a time in every Minecraft edition’s life when they evolve from being a mere percentage into a fully fledged number. For Pocket Edition and Windows 10 that time is almost here. 1.0 - The Ender Update is coming!
We didn’t pick that number for the lols. Our next update is packed with features but most significant is probably The End and its iconic inhabitant - The Ender Dragon. Though you can carry on playing after defeating the misunderstood beast, for many, taking it down is the ultimate goal in Minecraft. Something to aim for and achieve after hours of play. A tangible end-game for Survival players.
Of course, we’ll continue to update Pocket Edition and the Windows 10 Edition beta after this update. There’s plenty more to come!
Also, FYI, this is the update that the Apple TV Edition will ship with when it releases. Why not begin at The End, eh?
Alongside The End we’re also increasing the world height to 256 blocks. If you ask me, a 256 block-high building is a silly, silly thing but I suffer from mild vertigo so take from that what you will. You also get the snazzy new Elytra, known to the average human as “wings”. They’ll give you a whole new perspective on your Minecraft worlds as you float around free as a bird. A bird who can’t fly upwards but is super good at gliding.
There are a lot more features in the new update but we’re not going to go into those right now. We think it would be more fun if you find them out yourselves.
Oh, and Android users get to test out the beta for themselves! If you’re playing on an Android device, sign up here and get testing. Remember though - betas mean we’re still working on the update so expect bugs and weirdness. Tell us if you spot ‘em and let us know what you think here.
Thanks for sticking with us, everyone, no matter which platform you play on! Big congratulations to Pocket and Windows 10 for reaching the big 1.0. And sorry for sending millions of grizzled players into your home, Ender D. We love you really.

Minecraft News!
THE HUMBLE BLOCKJAM BUNDLE IS ABOUT TO BEGIN
Hey!
Exciting news ahead!
We’ve teamed up with a bunch of our developer buddies to create games and raise money for charity. The games will be available to download from Humble Bundle’s snazzy website in exchange for a donation of your choosing. It starts at 3pm today and ends at 12pm CET on Thursday.
The Blockjam will include a few groups of Mojang developers, a chap from Microsoft based in Seattle, Grapefrukt, Ludosity and the wonderboys from Oxeye Game Studio. We’re even putting on an official Mojang livestreamthat’ll be hosted by three of the greatest Minecraft youTubers of all time - cat-shaped man with the insane chuckle, Stampy; cheery lover of dog art, StacyPlays; and the infectiously enthusiastic and difficult to spell,Sqaishey.
Grapefrukt and Ludosity will be hosting their own streams too. We won’t be upset if you watch their stream instead of ours. Well, I won’t. Can’t speak for Stampy.
100% of the proceeds will go towards Block by Block - an initiative which funds public spaces in poor communities around the world. Members of these communities use Minecraft to help influence the final designs. It’s an amazing thing that we’re extremely proud to be a part of. But over time we’ve discovered that building cool things IRL is actually super expensive, hence the need for donations.
All the games will be DRM free so you don’t need to worry about online logins, subscriptions, or yucky season passes. The system requirements and platform each game appears on are yet to be decided, as is exactly how fun each of the games will be.
So yes! There is no catch! Watch the streams! Donate to charity! Play games! Woo! Oh, and use #blockjam if you’re going to talk about it on your social medias.
Oh - one last thing - don’t forget to vote if you’re old enough, Americans! Despite its awesomeness, the Blockjam is a terrible excuse for not voting. Mojang will not be responsible for the future of the free world.
Thanks!

Minecraft Realms!
BE A BEAR, OR DUEL A DRAGON!
Posted on Nov 5, 2016 by Marc Watson
Surprise! If you’re a Realms subscriber on the PC edition of Minecraft, you’ve got some new content today. Releasing a bunch ofHalloween experiences last week caused some build-up in the launch tubes, and so we already have four snazzy, new maps for you to dig into.
Let’s get started!
A Giant Quest by Team Wooloo
When a dragon shows up to extort your village for gold, there’s only one thing you can do: get huge and wreck everything! A Giant Quest is a short single-player adventure that plays with your sense of scale in some surprising ways, then afterward, allows you to create your own village in that same world.
Bear Buds by Mithey and Blueloving
Continuing Mithey’s trend of animal-related maps, we’ve got Bear Buds! You’re a polar bear with a dwarven shield and a flaming ax, off to find your dad. We don’t ask too many questions. If you like adventure gameplay mixed with puzzles and bears, you’re going to love this map!
Color Run by ForseeableMC
This fast-paced minigame is best with a large group of friends. Get everyone together and stand on the proper color, or else you fall to your doom!
Sad Panda Adventures 2 by Mithey and Blueloving
Mithey has two maps this week, and this one is a sequel to a recently-released adventure! Inspired by a particular monster-catching photography game, this on-rails shooter has players riding pandas through five ghast-infested levels.
The more the bear-ier
These adventure maps and this minigame can be downloaded right now through Minecraft Realms for PC, or directly through their creators. If you or your friends don’t already have a Realm, you can find out loads more at minecraft.net/realms. If you have fun with these, let the creators know all about it!
